Hey, David Beckham!
What’s with football that makes it as one of the most well-loved sports in the world that even the Beatles can’t get enough of it?
I know that you’re not even wondering why I placed David up there, obviously because he’s considered as a football superstar. But what you don’t know about him is one fact that from the time I knew about it, I began to look up to him as man with true determination and passion in his chosen field . I began to have a huge respect for him. Though I must confess, what I only knew then about him was that…
…he is the husband of Victoria Beckham and that…
…he plays really good football and that…
…his legs are insured for millions of dollars!
That’s about it.
And what did I learn about David that changed the way I looked at him?
Here it goes.
In a 2007 interview, Beckham said that, “At school whenever the teachers asked, ‘What do you want to do when you’re older?’ I’d say, ‘I want to be a footballer.’ And they’d say, ‘No, what do you really want to do, for a job?’ But that was the only thing I ever wanted to do. (Wikipedia)
See???
Do you understand me now?
David really knew what he wanted to be, and that is to be a footballer. He may sound silly at that time but he was so firm to stick to his goal and look at where he ended up, he has scored thousands of goals (am I exaggerating???) during his entire football career and still counting.
I am really wondering what his teachers are thinking are right now.
David taught me a very valuable lesson and that is to be what you want to be and not what others want you to be.
Go football! 🙂
