For this project, a pedestrian/bike path nicknamed Uraputki or “<a href="http://candychang.com/career-path/" target="_blank">Career Path</a>”, because it is a popular route that students take from their residences to the university, to get a degree to get a job. This path was turned into an interactive space with stenciled fill-in-the-blank sentences to make students reflect on their life choices as far as careers are concerned.</p> <p></p> <blockquote><p><em>For example, sentences stenciled on the pavement say “When I was little I wanted to be ____. Today I want to be ____.” in Finnish, Swedish, and English. Passersby can use colored chalk to write directly on the pavement and reflect upon their larger life choices. Sun and rain erase the responses and the installation starts again. The project is created with temporary spray chalk and will fade with weather and foot traffic.</em></p> </blockquote> <p></p> <p><a href="http://waveavenue.com" target="_self"><img src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/oCIQXveG39Y7EGmYCyIsAWV0ekGZZr*hORWH2hs0dpF8tY8OUmiXfhKKej*q2Mi4oG*3A09agMfhWOHOWkJ9B2j6xz7vDFs1/TurkuCareerPath10.jpg" width="720" class="align-full"/></a></p> <p></p> <p><a href="http://waveavenue.com" target="_self"><img src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/s-UNVqG7VcQ8y47xtIkuNVpHmFa4qlkhGqAYE1aYHeh0yV3JUgJ5b1PYGkqM-RdUkLYrZRKlvwap70eIxWoTwGOWOVHkVq4d/TurkuCareerPath12.jpg" width="720" class="align-full"/></a></p> <p></p> <p><a href="http://waveavenue.com" target="_self"><img src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/8uFKZ4mDXxTErnttd662tK4MuTGA9jN*15qyFbLuVS6oj8K3n39iCXBTE2PZQ3B-LFlNgkPETAN3H2iNRjtmxO20EbXguDCA/TurkuCareerPath20.jpg" width="720" class="align-full"/></a></p> <p></p> <p><a href="http://waveavenue.com" target="_self"><img src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/EYxXj*M*F4VDiAEyGHvhmK0ft0kiCGOjDmJOGBBYuMXuEoifuAkziEI6QEorH1Ol8BQzBqj5jngQdIa4MxULbbHv7snaOZJG/TurkuCareerPath231.jpg" width="720" class="align-full"/></a><a href="http://waveavenue.com" target="_self"><img src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/OMmyNnioEpUi2T2bFsdEmpNma*WV1KbKxf9cXcLy4tg4ykoiGAFJipkV5PhT1Qxq0f*ztKSUkrFp-*hW7586BMXbb*NPllbF/TurkuCareerPath24.jpg" width="720" class="align-full"/></a></p> <p></p> <blockquote><p><em>This project is about comparing yourself today and when you were young, reflecting on how you’ve changed or stayed the same, and thinking about the desires you had as a child. Select layers are hand-colored blue so it's easy to discern land from water, major byways are etched into the land, the whole thing's framed in a custom, solid-wood frame and protected seamlessly with a sheet of durable, ultra-transparent Plexiglas.</span></span></p> </blockquote> <p></p> <p><a href="http://waveavenue.com/" target="_self"><img src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/76lRwKmD7L8o3NeiI8oDywD0gXazqlDsYqGH-XsH5BO*6zYRci6YevWOOP4GBSTaCtPqnn7xTv6qxWwUdDOc-FBT4XbxfV9C/IntricatelyHandcraftedTopographicMaps.jpg?width=600" width="600" class="align-full"/></a></p> <p><a href="http://gessato." target="_blank"><img src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/TywbfJxJdkYgjSVDpRwqKCVLrAPOvih8hGgmpNWZSHo9F8muYPrxtThwEPOL2qKewwEy1ovmfjoUFVTj9-A*hL7vAfoPRrZP/IntricatelyHandcraftedTopographicMaps5.jpg?width=600" width="600" class="align-full"/></a></p> <p><a href="http://waveavenue.com/" target="_self"><img src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/IQseoPSFete9DnqsAKKCOp9AwKlNWjkh*bVTYXAVal0qUKMKm58tKcRIqJezrRxfajgk417E0LEuMR2nM-FqoLw8o31h5Kiu/IntricatelyHandcraftedTopographicMaps3.jpg?width=600" width="600" class="align-full"/></a></p> <p><a href="http://waveavenue.com/" target="_self"><img src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/juLsOYwjyxKwhVYmzDA5OnkRIzTu3tUSggUb6lFqLnpDPWd0IEHMWuiuwXz13tcdEUf9U5v8vGTythkMJsTXFsYsiw22a4yO/IntricatelyHandcraftedTopographicMaps2.jpg?width=600" width="600" class="align-full"/></a></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p>[via <a href="http://blog.gessato.com/2012/12/28/below-the-boat-handcrafted-bathymetric-charts/" target="_blank">gessato</a>]</p> 7 Million LED Lights at Nabana no Sato Annual Winter Illumination tag:waveavenue.com,2012-12-31:6325327:BlogPost:72512 2012-12-31T01:00:00.000Z rd http://waveavenue.com/profile/rd <p><a href="http://waveavenue.com" target="_self"><img class="align-full" src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/JErpN2jsSI*lrE06fIeqitRAhXGM8m-KbVBY609L1DLkMKa3nYlzCjwcLxSiEjdzMCdz7tSKI-uvRpGhhs0zjvgQ94q3ucv0/EtherealNabananoSatoWinterIllumination20121.jpg?width=650" width="650"></img></a> If you happen to be in Nagoya, you'll definitely enjoy the <a href="http://www.nagashima-onsen.co.jp/nabana/illumination/index.html/" target="_blank">Nabana no Sato Annual Winter Illumination</a>. Yes, they are not though it can also be said that it is statistically possible. In<em> </em>1885, Wilson Alwyn Bentley attempted to find identical snowflakes by photographing thousands of them with a microscope that paved the way for the wide variety of snowflakes that we know about today. According to <a target="_blank" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowflake">Wikipedia</a>, <em>it is very unlikely for any two snowflakes to be exactly alike due to the roughly 1019 water molecules which make up a typical snowflake, which grow at different rates and in different patterns depending on the changing temperature and humidity within the atmosphere that the snowflake falls through on its way to the ground united.</em> <em> </em></p> <p></p> <p>Now that we have learned something new about snowflakes, check out these amazing macro photos by <a href="http://en.www.lensart.ru/user-uid-1676.htm" target="_blank">Andrew Osokin</a>, who is now based in Moscow and also takes photos of insects and raindrop covered spider webs.</p> <p></p> <p><a href="http://waveavenue.com/" target="_self"><img src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/RS902N06*FuTgNitIVWlmUzfeTANQbtBvMAuiUWLVAJbdX1eR*pOta*6ZvwOpg61WwoGuwsrKWEIdpIACeUdY7lq3PoBN5Oo/AweInspiringSnowflakePhotographybyAndrewOsokin.jpg?width=600" width="600" class="align-full"/></a></p> <p><a href="http://waveavenue.com/" target="_self"><img src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/mxa8LsM-CSHDc5GsMGwtSudVngkdNTwvAiafqGVUnkDK6IriTGj*NYL1OpfKugsJ*HfA4EyIgzyN693iqf0Aho1A068jEhSS/AweInspiringSnowflakePhotographybyAndrewOsokin8.jpg?width=600" width="600" class="align-full"/></a></p> <p><a href="http://waveavenue.com/" target="_self"><img src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/07TO1Ehx9hz6QwUty-09TyRltWgpUw3m*qZL6RuGZtXj3MBwWsJCNPff7wKhQU8k*GCD51lYSVBruY5*gB3E*P6DdjvspsUD/AweInspiringSnowflakePhotographybyAndrewOsokin5.jpg?width=600" width="600" class="align-full"/></a></p> <p><a href="http://waveavenue.com/" target="_self"><img src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/bZ*TStdcGM3OwPFP4nimr-hELSyYNqBD*Fq5FUSIBdv7ruhCXUhP6422nu7FvJoXGzArwZcWpaBqK04DiDPAIxA05FucYwi3/AweInspiringSnowflakePhotographybyAndrewOsokin3.jpg?width=600" width="600" class="align-full"/></a></p> <p><a href="http://waveavenue.com/" target="_self"><img src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/PjD*50hw85k-a-5EmjeSXfiwXAQxnna7Fi4PW87rNGdmAHwEYYRzSvfwSht*gHPQt0hqYJemz2FPBvHgJ0p1aMR4EfkS1nEM/AweInspiringSnowflakePhotographybyAndrewOsokin7.jpg?width=600" width="600" class="align-full"/></a></p> <p><a href="http://waveavenue.com/" target="_self"><img src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/rHc8BLngKDhdoEw3D*pCBIO8eHxKDpAAas49o7Vna7BBRuNkywOMj2j78Lc0aecz-LaiDpR9VlgRKD5Cm*QoDCAaOVEScbhs/AweInspiringSnowflakePhotographybyAndrewOsokin4.jpg?width=600" width="600" class="align-full"/></a></p> <p><a href="http://waveavenue.com/" target="_self"><img src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/yo5QNRlygAf2p7xcAyb-wgddJ9UO6HPhdAYG3PsX9dEvdElEIM3TS69DFiqg82v9T9dDyGNGJxZB87Jr-IQaO0hUoQb3ymrd/AweInspiringSnowflakePhotographybyAndrewOsokin2.jpg?width=600" width="600" class="align-full"/></a></p> <p>[via <a href="http://inspirationhut.net/inspiration/unbelievable-macro-snowflake-photography-by-andrew-osokin/" target="_blank">inspirationhut</a>]</p> Steven Spazuk Creates Incredible Portraits Using Fire tag:waveavenue.com,2012-12-22:6325327:BlogPost:71970 2012-12-22T02:00:00.000Z rd http://waveavenue.com/profile/rd <p><a href="http://waveavenue.com" target="_self"><img class="align-full" src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/M2sjgIGlf6G2m06Fj9kofuUKXo0nJptGM0M1L*6smCXMgn4UwWBmA25OpP3L7fky3QSUax9CmSKC*6QJieO*QQ__/StevenSpazukFirePaperPainting.jpg" width="714"></img></a></p> <p><em><span class="font-size-1" style="color: #808080;">Self-portrait by Steven Spazuk</span></em></p> <p></p> <p>Artist <span style="color: #000000;"><strong><a href="http://www.spazuk.com/" target="_blank"><span style="color: #000000;">Steven Spazuk</span></a></strong></span> used to be a conventional painter when he dreamt of using soot as a painting medium. Simply brilliant.</p> <p></p> <p><a href="http://waveavenue.com" target="_self"><img src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/eO0B-zxQPLeP*NiqnlYR9tzvVBp7FCD7a45cw1f3MCX5-rVd7Wcf7TSlruzu3NwFDCvzg7LDyuGJX3yUqUbiJhT06KliaZmk/FunInteractiveCloudSculptureComposedof6000LightBulbs2.jpg?width=600" width="600" class="align-full"/></a></p> <p><a href="http://waveavenue.com" target="_self"><img src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/0TuyxS6Z67LU*JWg-NFa3KWIUlrIx65g7znQvrxsgVjHpJ8PsS-q12KaUQqEFg8xj9F3w7QemL-BkjZF9hPF3zdlb*Qa083t/FunInteractiveCloudSculptureComposedof6000LightBulbs3.jpg?width=600" width="600" class="align-full"/></a></p> <p><a href="http://waveavenue.com" target="_self"><img src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/6UI67wkaJfcaAnQ9JinVJoqyqFI0I9WVoKKp6kD34d83JxxpOeQwh06Eq77ne*sBxAKQGVJqvaEWPQOjsstK2G7PWCCgRjf2/FunInteractiveCloudSculptureComposedof6000LightBulbs4.jpg?width=600" width="600" class="align-full"/></a></p> <p><a href="http://waveavenue.com" target="_self"><img src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/CRjrj3KWmuvXlHjiIeZLRKYMK6trwEzpuSUIbhDAoruSrX7ebpZajiobcotQhRoXhX89Sm896hDIeM*Soi5l4XFRWaaPUdQ-/FunInteractiveCloudSculptureComposedof6000LightBulbs5.jpg?width=600" width="600" class="align-full"/></a></p> <p><a href="http://waveavenue.com" target="_self"><img src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/xa2Oh5Y*5NObLy0O3yitFNa9Q26wKbfR-RLhktxkd73tQT35ZWCAmVgwhojAbJEAFNg44fdls0a1foxlPAwz-ZQWh0sxeuqc/FunInteractiveCloudSculptureComposedof6000LightBulbs7.jpg?width=600" width="600" class="align-full"/></a></p> <p><a href="http://waveavenue.com" target="_self"><img src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/vFAm*z4a9VQ1ijATc-RjWggsVaNdjeSsKfhSbDlkOzk5PwULzzmRoAirlpN0S23yJzO5UZq8XM9ztxoHVQgaSnHckbYuwT0U/FunInteractiveCloudSculptureComposedof6000LightBulbs8.jpg?width=600" width="600" class="align-full"/></a></p> <p></p> <p> <object width="600" height="330" classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="false"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="never"></param><param name="src" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=49748983&force_embed=1&server=vimeo.com&show_title=0&show_byline=0&show_portrait=0&color=00adef&fullscreen=1&autoplay=0&loop=0"></param><embed wmode="opaque" width="600" height="330" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=49748983&force_embed=1&server=vimeo.com&show_title=0&show_byline=0&show_portrait=0&color=00adef&fullscreen=1&autoplay=0&loop=0" allowfullscreen="false" allowscriptaccess="never"></embed> <param name="wmode" value="opaque"></param></object> </p> <p></p> <p>[via <a href="http://www.yellowtrace.com.au/2012/12/05/interactive-cloud-sculpture-made-from-6000-light-bulbs-by-caitlind-brown/">yellowtrace</a>]</p> Unbelievable Hand-carved Victorian Lace Eggs tag:waveavenue.com,2012-12-21:6325327:BlogPost:72226 2012-12-21T00:00:00.000Z C. http://waveavenue.com/profile/C <p><a href="http://waveavenue.com/" target="_self"><img class="align-full" src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/Zba2SkFJ6RMjcORcU5oQ8t9YUMTrcU0mNkExgv4g7KvR6zhFqoYjAp*makh-YpetjwvfA9HlqbertHN2BWcyAqnnLRU-jGjb/UnbelievableHandcarvedVictorianLaceEggs.jpg?width=600" width="600"></img></a></p> <p>We have seen artworks from carved wood, ice and even books, but have you seen hand-carved eggs? You may want to watch how she does her incredible artworks <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XZ-TFuIxDQ" target="_blank">here</a>.</p> <p></p> <p>The artist says:</p> <blockquote><p><span>Since the dawn of man, the egg has been associated with creation. Because they contain new life and such potential, eggs were seen as a tool of divination. Their size, shape, and contents were used to forecast the future. Christians regard the egg as a symbol of the risen Christ. Beautifully decorated Easter eggs are a common tradition throughout Christendom. The Victorians, fond of ornamentation, decorated their eggs with snippets of daily life: trade cards, ribbons, beads, and bits of old lace. </span></p> </blockquote> <p></p> <p><span><a href="http://waveavenue.com/" target="_self"><img src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/J1Ac5BJONwASkp6mkMdjwl8-u37ekdXS-vj1KMRIPHXTtZZ6BRmRO*Vr6tdp*xoV4PfqtLZbg7KFYKsr3u89ukdOsS8FctYS/UnbelievableHandcarvedVictorianLaceEggs6.jpg?width=600" width="600" class="align-full"/></a></span></p> <p><span><a href="http://waveavenue.com/" target="_self"><img src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/MGmtiF1hMSdco2Df0ek2957m9sHqEoVMuTmyTTSXK*wg5qoHYDAb*E6UrOZofij7RNj*7rQpdCCzF7hfn4**NB01yavxLmHg/UnbelievableHandcarvedVictorianLaceEggs5.jpg?width=600" width="600" class="align-full"/></a></span></p> <p><a href="http://waveavenue.com/" target="_self"><img src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/J1Ac5BJONwA0qTui8r2gU8tXOKs4mD-GUeJT2hwlwTcqlunvg6-0v7dlFRVW5dbsteziStOQA-a6fh0H83BxArbFj09uAQQ3/UnbelievableHandcarvedVictorianLaceEggs2.jpg?width=600" width="600" class="align-full"/></a></p> <p><a href="http://waveavenue.com/" target="_self"><img src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/RS902N06*Fs92L8JguLpPcc87wOpl25x4azNdB9jd6MGkBUJjogunBRKvKS7hWq0zOmHhJBwSwKjEsmP6cZmG3FIADuOyZeI/UnbelievableHandcarvedVictorianLaceEggs4.jpg?width=600" width="600" class="align-full"/></a></p> <p><a href="http://waveavenue.com/" target="_self"><img src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/bZ*TStdcGM203861gkzzyTMl3vyVyFF32XsGjuQAWUVUNVNcXPr*hp*XSvOaLLWJWgmNHExGpluhDTLE8SbAqGMZOyuGZGYD/UnbelievableHandcarvedVictorianLaceEggs3.jpg?width=600" width="600" class="align-full"/></a></p> <p> [via <a href="http://www.cmybacon.com/2011/09/hand-carved-victorian-lace-eggs/" target="_blank">cmybacon</a>]</p> Captivating Rainbow Roses tag:waveavenue.com,2012-12-20:6325327:BlogPost:72219 2012-12-20T00:00:00.000Z C. http://waveavenue.com/profile/C <p><a href="http://waveavenue.com/" target="_self"><img class="align-full" src="http://api.ning.com:80/files/ntM7FLe4XQ9AClyPfUlfk2EYqLf3bO03wLr0MkzW1HwGQFntd3YZrSYs7ledL1MM5PMmm6Q8ZfHRyxxbxTOC6k4uhbT-LXiq/CaptivatingRainbowRoses2.jpg?width=600" width="600"></img></a></p> <p>Yes, red roses are <em>absolutely</em> romantic while white roses signify <em>purity...</em> But would you want to receive a multi-colored rose?
