I know I've already asked y'all for general moving advice, but I now need some specific help with clothes hangers. I have tons of them and just about every one was bought and paid for, so I don't want to leave them behind and replace them. I'm trying to figure out what to do with them so they don't take up more space than necessary in the moving truck. Any ideas?

You could use string, yarn, etc. to tie 10-20 together and lay or stand them in a box, side by side, stack them as close together as possible, like maybe invert the next row so they stack together more. 'Hope this helps some. I think those things multiply in the dark, sometimes, ha!
Thanks for this S! Earlier this month I found out that I am also actually moving. I was fixing hangers last night and I remembered this advice. So much better and easier to handle when tied together. You don't want hangers sprawling around in tangles. Yaiks!
I like Shirley's idea of tying them in small bunches of 10-20. You can tuck them in and around other boxes, or pack them in their own box, depending on space. Good luck!! When is the big moving day?
Thanks, Shirley! Your idea of inverting them may just save the day! I'm going to make this my project for today. Every time I've walked into my closet in the past two weeks I've looked at all the hangers, sighed, and walked back out. I think it's time to finally do something about this.
Elizabeth, the 26th of this month is the big day. It is fast approaching and I am feeling so overwhelmed right now!
Ok, off-topic.. Just curious, if you need to move someplace else, what's the first thing you look for in a house?
Open concept of main floor-kitchen, livingroom, dining room.
Open concept homes are always good and flexible. It's easier to adjust the space to your needs. Thanks S!
I always just put mine in a tightly tied garbage bag and call it a day. You could also mail the hangers to your new address if you are really pressed for space.
@ rd - The first thing I look at is property size and privacy. We spend more time outdoors than in, so having enough relaxing space is important. Next would be the functionality of the kitchen and closet space because I cook everyday and we have a lot of "stuff."
Just to update y'all, it was a successful No Hanger Left Behind move! I used Shirley's idea of inverting and also stuffed them into boxes with other things, like my daughter's stuffed animals.
That's good news! I hope your settling quite nicely in your new place.
The last time I moved, I grouped all of the hangers in sets of ten or so, and used wire twist ties to fasten them together. Just put them in the corners of all your clothes boxes. If you do that with the arm down, it fits nicely and takes up very little room in the box. The great thing is when you unpack, your hangers are with the clothes so they're easier to put away.
