Dutch design studio Mieke Meijer, in collaboration with Just Hasnoot have designed the Object élevé, a suspended three-part staircase which also offers space to work, collect and store next to the function of connecting two floors.
This special staircase that serves as an access to the attic was handcrafted using oak and black steel.
Description by Mieke Meijer:
Élevé object has a strong relationship with previous installations of Studio Mieke Meijer inspired by photographs of Bernd and Hilla Becher. The black and white photography of Bernd and Hilla Becher is known by their systematic series of photographs of industrial buildings that are equal in function and construction. Studio Mieke Meijer reconstructs these structures to their own interpretation to functional systems.
The industrial character of Object élevé forms a strong contrast with the stylish thirties house and transforms a traffic space to a special lounge.
The structure, made up of both standing and suspended solids consists largely of open frame allowing the transparent nature of the design is retained.
By applying the samba-stage principle, it was possible to achieve. Steep but well walk-able stairs.
