Keisuke Kawaguchi + K2-DESIGN created the Residence in Daisen located in the mountains of Tottori prefecture in Oyama, Japan.

Completed in 2011, the house is a group of raised containers connected by passageways, strategically avoiding the existing pine and cherry trees.

The architect describes the concept, ‘Trunks reaching towards the sky with bountiful leaves. The figures of the trees are beautiful. They are the legitimate habitants of the forest.’

Residence in Daisen by Keisuke Kawaguchi + K2-DESIGN:

It is a guest house you have planned in the forest at the foot of Yonago, Tottori Prefecture Oyama.

The site is in the pine trees and cherry trees. Trees of them, holding the interval by the balance of its own with a lush branches and leaves and stem that rises toward the sky. The figure is beautiful. What trees is a valid resident of this place. I was thinking that building a building in this location, is essential sufficient interaction with the site, that there is a symbiosis in the destination. Arrangement plans are underway in conformance with it. The contemplation that I arrange the building, leaving as much as possible the existing trees, to ensure the living space as much as possible in the gap. I tried to design a “shape in harmony with the forest.” You choose how to study and analyze closely the partition that you can build the living space on it, connecting each function space by a short connecting passage. The roof, and with a gradient that changed the direction to each according to the direction and the opening of branches of trees, and is considered to capture the sunlight effective.

Here Oyama, there is a snow cover of 2 m near the winter. The second floor is living space for that, select the Piroti architecture. In consideration of the ventilation in the summer was further consideration so as to protect the indoor environment from the temperature and humidity from the ground. As a result, house rich in comfort throughout the year was realized.

Forest to look at from the living room is deep forever. It seems to say “light and dark (red) microscopy (White) Hiroshi (Awo) (Black)” – one day color. The 1st color to draw the season to the changing will of a variety of how much. I think the happiness you find it feel to spend in this building, when the flow of rich forests, engraved. And this building is even completed its life in the distant future some day, this forest will live. The “form of harmony with the forest”, and think of it as can fulfill the original meaning of what at this time.
