Landfillart is an international effort encompassing one-thousand-forty-one (1,041) artists to claim a piece of rusted metal garbage, old automobile hub caps from the 1930’s through the 1970’s, and create fine art...an artist reclamation project. Some have been weaved on, glued or screwed or welded to, or made into fine sculpture."
Center Detail.
My art starts off with creating silk paintings of bold, colored designs from my photos of tall, mirrored glass buildings. Their large windowed forms transfer reflections of ordinary buildings into flowing illusions of mutated and curiously surreal shapes that balance animate and unexpected imagery between what is perceived as real and what is not, involving the viewer with components of mystery and ambiguity. The intriguing elements of mortar and glass onto soft and delicate silk captivates these dualities and makes my art my own. On this piece I utilzed acrylic paint on the metal for the surreal/fantasy building shapes that grow in my psyche. Very different from silk, a challenge to me and the fact that the project inception was to clean up our world and turn it into art, interested me the most. It's an honor to have been accepted to join in with this group of artists for this project.
